Iain Russell has spent his career building and running businesses — not advising from the sidelines.

He's held a £20m P&L as Operations Director at a major national company, accountable for eight service centres and more than 230 staff. He took on a PE-backed business as Managing Director when turnover was sitting at £950k and drifting; fourteen months later it had crossed £1.7m — not through luck, but through a clear plan, a team that understood what they were working towards, and decisions made on evidence rather than instinct.

He has also founded, built, and profitably sold a business of his own — started from scratch during a global pandemic, when almost nothing about the timing made sense.

He has made payroll decisions. Led teams through genuine uncertainty. Sat across the table from investors, boards, and banks. He knows what accountability feels like as a daily reality rather than a management concept.

Before all of that, he spent 24 years as an engineer in the Royal Navy, where he learned to lead under pressure and stay composed when the stakes were high. It's a useful foundation. But it's the years of running real businesses that a client feels day to day.

Most consultancy is designed to make the consultant look clever.

Long reports. Borrowed frameworks. Language that means very little and commits to less. A final presentation that leaves everyone impressed and nothing actually changed.

We think that's backwards.

The point of good advice isn't to demonstrate expertise. It's to help you see your own business clearly enough to act. Which means telling you things you might not want to hear. Working on the boring problem rather than the interesting one. And being honest, on the very first call, if we don't think we're the right fit.
